Our Vision

Where Elpis Biosciences comes from, what we believe, and where we're going.

Where this started

Someone close to us lives with multiple chronic conditions. She has experienced what it feels like to not be believed — the appointments that end without answers, the tests that come back normal, the quiet dismissals that accumulate over years of navigating a healthcare system not designed to handle ambiguity well.

We went looking for genetic tools that could help. What we found were reports full of confident-sounding language with no citations, trait predictions wrapped in vague disclaimers, and companies treating genetic data as an asset to be monetized. Elpis Biosciences is the reaction to all of that.

"We watched 23andMe enter bankruptcy proceedings with millions of people's genetic data as a line item on a balance sheet. That is not what trust looks like."

What we believe

Accurate genetic insight should not be limited by ancestry or education.
Most GWAS studies have been conducted in European-ancestry populations. We address this honestly and are actively working to improve it.
We say less. It means more.
Most genetic reports give you a hundred results with vague language and no citations. Ours give you fewer results backed by peer-reviewed research you can read.
Your data belongs to you.
Genetic data is not a product. It is yours, and we are honored to help you see it more clearly. We built an architecture where we literally cannot access it.
We report the uncertainty.
We know the difference between a well-replicated finding and a preliminary association. We tell you. Every variant in our panel carries a confidence label.
We are scientists, not prophets.
These variants are tendencies, not predictions. We build every report with that framing at the front, not the footnote.

Where this is going

Elpis's current reports are Research Use Only — educational tools that give you better questions to bring to your provider. The longer-term goal is diagnostic-grade. Tools specific enough and robust enough to be taken directly to a healthcare provider and acted on with confidence.

The free parser is the foundation of that trust. We want to earn the right to build the harder thing by doing this simpler thing well. This is version one. We're building in the open, and we're building it with you.
